Sciway, a specialist brand in laboratory gas solutions, has officially launched its new Y-HNN and Y-PNN Dual-Purity Nitrogen Generators. Designed for tandem mass spectrometry, ion mobility MS, and CAD detectors, the new generators allow laboratories to obtain multiple nitrogen grades from a single compact system.
In many advanced labs, running both high-purity and standard nitrogen typically means deploying a standard nitrogen generator plus high-purity nitrogen cylinders or a separate high-purity generator—consuming floor space and increasing maintenance burden. Sciway’s Y-HNN / Y-PNN solve this with an integrated PSA + membrane dual nitrogen-generation architecture, simultaneously delivering:
- 99.999% high-purity nitrogen for collision cell gas
- 99.9% high-purity nitrogen for ion mobility / CAD gas
- 99% standard nitrogen for ion source and mobility drift gas
This makes a single instrument capable of replacing a multi-unit gas source setup.
The generators target applications such as general analytical work and high-throughput routine proteomics, and are compatible with major mass spectrometer platforms from Bruker, Waters, Agilent, and Thermo Fisher.
To ensure gas quality, the Y-HNN / Y-PNN use Sciway’s patented dehumidification technology—combining three-stage filtration, heat-exchanger drying, and membrane purification—to minimize moisture interference, protect samples, and extend instrument life. An external hydrocarbon-removal module or trap can also be added to further reduce hydrocarbon fragments and spectral interference.
Operation is intelligent and user-friendly: a color touchscreen shows instrument status, fault alerts, and diagnostics; automatic restart after unexpected power loss is supported. Optional modules—purity-linked switching, gas pressure monitoring, and purity monitoring—allow the system to fit more complex laboratory workflows.
According to a Sciway product lead, the dual-purity nitrogen generator represents another step forward in Sciway’s mission to simplify gas supply for LC-MS and high-end mass spectrometry labs. The goal is to free laboratories from the constraints of cylinders, pipelines, and multiple generators, enabling more compact and intelligent on-site gas generation solutions that boost research productivity.
